Invaders Cover Up!!!

CIA secrets? alien vessel crash landing in our own backyard?

nah...

i'm just here to report that i no longer skate for the "Reebok" Invaders!

as promised, i deleted the front "Reebok" mark from my own jersey.

remember:

is now, this:

but upon further inspection...

who am i to not try something new (to me, anyways)?

"P I T" in "Invaders font"

PIT of course being the airport code for Pittsburgh. much like the Phoenix Suns who use "PHX" and the Atlanta Hawks "ATL"

the cover up material i used was a few shades off from the jersey color, and is a slightly different material itself. there is NO WAY i'm finding a match without cutting up the exact style jersey. so rather then sewing it on, and pretending to ignore it... i did something that i thought would almost make the slight difference "on purpose"

navy, on navy, on navy... 3 different materials and shades (including the twill used for the letters). can't see it from a distance... but if and when you DO spot a slight difference... and maybe take a closer look... it's kind of an "oh... cool!" feeling...

plus i didn't want to use another color for the letters because a) i didn't want to make the front of the jersey any more busy, and b) didn't want to stand out from my teammates too much.

Invaders White Jersey Update...

you guys remember the Invaders White Jersey with this logo on the front:

looked like this... back:

front:

me:

finished it up last February i believe.

well, i've made some pretty significant tweaks since then!

i was never too fond of the Invaders "I" patch on the shoulder

this "I" patch:

so i moved it to an area on hockey jerseys that doesn't usually have a patch... you'll see below.

also, i had Invaders Logo shoulder patches embroidered by my friends over at Pro Knitwear Pittsburgh. check it out:

so i added those to the same shoulder that i had the "I" patch removed from.

and last but not least... since this jersey won't be seeing "game" action any time soon, just "pick-up" action... i added a captain's "C" patch for all the hard work on the team jerseys...

have a look:

defintiely turned out just as i had planned... well...

Penguins Logo

i was commissioned to paint a Penguins wall logo for a friend over the holidays.

first, i traced/drew the Penguins logo in AutoCAD. I scaled the logo up to 4ft tall. I then set a grid over top of the logo. each rectangle measuring 11" x 17"

i then printed out each piece on 11" x 17" paper:

set it out on the floor to get an idea of the scale:

then started taping, cutting, and tracing:

i freehanded most of the gloves. i used "holes" and the overall outline of the glove for refrence, and just sketched in the rest

after 2 days, and 4 hours of work:

started out with black. a little work left on the glove & skates:

scale:

3 days, 6 hours total of work:

day 4, gold, 7 hours of work total:

adding white, after day 5, 8.5 total hours of work:

adding white outline. toyed with the idea of outlining the whole logo with a navy blue stripe, then a light blue stripe, or vice-versa per the 3rd/alt jerseys colors

finished! 6 trips, 10 hours of work. not the sharpest pic (have yet to upload it):

to scale against yours truly:

happy to finish up such a fun project:

i didn't exactly "labor" because A) i love to paint, and B) there was a big screen just out of the pics that i had tuned to various hockey action thru the whole process (would explain the 10 hours, eh?). but it turned out amazing! you just can't beat a hand painted piece of work opposed to a sticker or "fat head" wall hanging. and it was GREAT to step away from DIY jersey making and back into painting.

hope you all enjoy as much as the "client" did after finally seeing the "finished product"

hope you all have a happy, safe, and prosperous 2012!!!
