Sometimes I Get Awesome Gifts... (From Scheibler)

thank you Will Scheibler! check out what he DIYed, and he even sent me one!

message from Will:

"Thought of making a fake farm team jersey of your Pittsburgh Invaders one for Thunder Bay (where I live). Used your INVADERS logo script and was thinking of either using the 3rd alien you didn't use or the mystery space ship. Maybe since it would be a farm team use the alien you have on the front of yours for the shoulders. I have a black jersey with yellow stripes (like the Bruins from the 80s) that has screen printing on the front I could cover over with a logo.

Incorporated the main geographical thing Thunder Bay is "famous" for - the Sleeping Giant (it's even on the city's flag) , and then added some waves on top. Originally thought of using all the colours in the flag but decided that would be way too much. Anyway, after goofing around for a while here's what I came up with so far"

here is the Sleeping Giant:

here is the beautiful Thunder Bay flag:

i mean really, is that flag gorgeous, or what?!?!

here is the logo Will drew up:

here is the jersey Will DIYed:

icing on the cake... here is a logo he sent to me! really, the camera/pic just doesn't do this logo justice! it's absolutely top notch work:

Invaders 4!

i play a lot of pick-up hockey, and the only real "rule" is to bring a light & dark jersey. teams are made on the spot. i'm not too fond of wearing my "gamer" (the brown & gold, or the navy) Invaders jerseys as i don't want them to wear out. but i LOVE the Invaders theme/name.

i already have a white pick-up jersey:

in fact, here i am wearing an earlier version of the white just before a shinny:

so now i needed a dark! i wanted something totally different from what we've seen from the Invaders to this point. i wanted a SUPER classic & simple design. almost to look like it would have been a throwback from... say... the 40's-50's. errr something like that. but still tied to the Invaders style

so i simplified our shoulder patch. turned it into a 2-color scheme of a logo:

re-sized, traced, and so-on:

slapped it on the front of the jersey:

i tried to do something with our other shoulder patch, but it just wasn't working. enjoy anyway:

finished front:

first time i ever tried sleeve numbers. also, used our current logo shoulder patch almost as if to say "no matter how different, this is still a 'Vaders jersey"

Untitled

simple back. current numbers font, no outline. clean!

here i am wearing it the next day, for the first time... passed out on a bus trip to Buffalo to see the Penguins take on the Sabres. too... much... beer...

welcome to "the family"

Invaders White Jersey Update...

you guys remember the Invaders White Jersey with this logo on the front:

looked like this... back:

front:

me:

finished it up last February i believe.

well, i've made some pretty significant tweaks since then!

i was never too fond of the Invaders "I" patch on the shoulder

this "I" patch:

so i moved it to an area on hockey jerseys that doesn't usually have a patch... you'll see below.

also, i had Invaders Logo shoulder patches embroidered by my friends over at Pro Knitwear Pittsburgh. check it out:

so i added those to the same shoulder that i had the "I" patch removed from.

and last but not least... since this jersey won't be seeing "game" action any time soon, just "pick-up" action... i added a captain's "C" patch for all the hard work on the team jerseys...

have a look:

defintiely turned out just as i had planned... well...

desk buddy post #3

and as i look at bugs here, i can only wonder what he'd look like striped off in invaders colors...

hmmm... scratching my head...

sign me up to take on yet another DIY

most of the time, i sketch it out...

here is a sketch i JUST started to work on for my sister-in-law's band "Pimp Fly"... was just about to ramp up the effort... then the band changed names!

check out Kill Room's FB fan page here:

and check out this fly little fly that never got to fly... maybe i'll revisit it sometime. till then, bottoms up little fella!

we've seen this little monkey here. he keeps getting bigger every day. hit a speed bump drawing his arm, and a few other projects popped up. but will get back into this design soon enough.

for the heck of it, here's the Slag Monkees Cycling Club fan page. soon as that logo is finished up, i'll get to designing jerseys/shirts. stay tuned!

this is/was the start of a retro 40s Invaders logo i messed around with for a bit. built off of that, and created something kinda cool. but we'll have to wait on the finished product... future DIY! wanted a "comic book title" feel to the Invaders wordmark. and played off a War of the Worlds feel on the little spaceship-hockey stick legs:

i have a new desk buddy named Laserbeak. Laserbeak, if you remember, is based off of a condor... so i wanted to sketch out a more condor-like metal/machine wing. just messing around really

was gonna AutoCAD it up and make it look pretty mean, but never made it to that step yet. more busy/bored work to do down the line:

by now you can probably tell i usually keep 1 sheet of paper next to my desk to sketch on. i'll doodle all over it. would take a pic, but there's work numbers and what-nots on it that maybe i shouldn't share :-)

last but not least, was sketching an old timey, early cartoony dog the other day while thinking up a logo for something else.

hope you all enjoyed! posting my second guest DIY entry next week, so stay tuned for that!

hope you all have a safe, fun weekend!

Invaders Ticket Stub...

i did some quick research thru my old calenders and estimated the FIRST EVER Invaders game was played on June 20th, 2009!

i have always saved my tickets stubs from sports events, movies, and whatever else had a cool piece of cardstock to preserve the memory. so i decided to draw up my own in AutoCAD! here's what would have got you in the door on the 20th... enjoy:

i wanted the result to look as "ticketmaster" official as i could (without all the added taxes and surcharges). note the fonts, and placement. also note that the "sec/row/seat" designations are all "off-kilter" as if these tickets were mass produced for the event, and lined up with no regard toward asthetics...

i pretty much collected jerseys up until i made my first Invaders jersey... wonder what this is gonna do to my ticket stub collection...
